From The Pastor       April 2011

Our calendar is turning to a new month and we are moving through the seasons of Lent— together as a Church family which is the way it should be. As we focus forward on the Easter event, the death and resurrection of our Lord, our attention is also drawn into the world. With all the calamitous events unfolding before our eyes on a 7 x 24 basis, we find our stress increasing along with our genuine concern for the plights of so many people in so many places. It is not only the man made disasters unfolding at an alarming rate and an apparently quickening pace, but it seems that nature wants
attention as well. While we know what the death and
resurrection of Christ means— ultimate victory of life over death— we also know that death and disaster wrought by evil men and the forces of nature vie for our day to day focus.

While we need to be aware of what transpires "in the news", we cannot let that shake our confidence in our Lord or the certainty of our salvation or cause us to become hopeless. Our hope and our help are in the Lord. Regardless of what happens around or to us— our future is secure. Regardless of disaster here or abroad, our fate is certain. Almost 2,000 years ago, the most important event of all times occurred— the resurrection of Christ. The empty tomb testified. The rolled away stone witnessed. At the tomb, the angel asked, 'Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here, but has risen" (Luke 24) Jesus gave us salvation and eternal life and gave it freely. No one and no force can take this away from us. We are His.
